National 400m Hurdles course record holder Wiseman Were has successfully qualified for the semifinal of the 400 mH at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Were, who was competing in Heat Two, oozed class as he proceeded to finish fourth in 49.10 in the quality field.

Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands carried the day in the second Heat as he won in 48.47. Estonia’s Rasmus Magi and USA’s Trevor Bassit finished second and third in respective times of 48.58 and 48.73.

Meanwhile, National champion Boniface Mweresa failed to proceed to the semifinal of the 400m at the World Championships.

Mweresa was in Heat One and he fizzled out to finish a distant seventh in 45.91. He was off to a good start but his opponents proved too strong for him and he ended up crossing the finish line last.

Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas carried the day in the Heat as he clocked 44.65. Japan’s Kentaro Santo and Hungary’s Attila Molnar finished second and third in 44.77 and 44.84 respectively, both National record times.

This marks the end of the road for Team Kenya in the 400m since Mweresa was Kenya’s sole representative in the event.
