Wiseman Were has shared how the indoor races helped him last season and he hopes opening his 2024 season with the indoor races will increase his chances of qualifying for the Olympics.

National 400m Hurdles champion Wiseman Were has exuded confidence as he eyes a maiden appearance at the Olympic Games scheduled for Paris, France later this year.

Were will be making a return to the indoor meeting in Miramas, France this weekend. Last year, he made his indoor debut at the same event and he has highlighted the importance of the indoor races.

He explained that by opening his season with the indoor races last year, he was able to improve his speed and learn how to improve his curves.

“I’m doing indoors because last season it really helped me out. That was my first time and I thank God because I was able to get my speed and learn how guys can execute the race well.

“When I came back, I started doing very well because it was a good start and it prepares me for the outdoor races,” Were said.

He added that so far, his training has been smooth sailing and he has been busy sharpening his talons in the weather he terms perfect.

Were did not compete at the third Athletics Kenya weekend meet and he opened up by saying it was a decision made by himself and the coach but upon his return, he will be ready to run on home soil.

“My training has been going well and the weather is perfect…my body has also been responding well being that the competitions will be starting this week so we are just getting ready to see where we are.

“During last weekend’s AK meet, I didn’t run because we had planned with my coach and it just depends on what you want to achieve. I think I’ll come back when I’m ready to compete on home soil,” he added.
