Reigning world 3000m Steeplechase champion Winfred Yavi will be looking to bounce back to winning ways at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris scheduled for July 7.
Yavi opened her season at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene where she finished ninth in 9:21.62. The race was won by Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai who stopped the clock in a personal best time of 8:55.09.
World 3000m steeplechase silver medallist Beatrice Chepkoech finished second in 8:56.51 as Faith Cherotich completed the podium in a time of 9:04.45.

Winfred Yavi undaunted by faulty start to season as she plots comeback
Winfred Yavi is not shaken by her poor start to her focus and is going back to the drawing board as she seeks a strong comeback in her next race.
Yavi is yet to win a race this season, having only competed in two events, with her second assignment being the Meeting International d'Athlétisme de la Province de Liège in Belgium. She competed in the 5000m, finishing second in 14:41.99.

In Paris, Yavi will be up against world record holder Chepkoech, who has been in great shape so far this season. In her bid to win her first Olympic medal, Chepkoech has been working around the clock to ensure she is in the right shape for the event.

World 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech and bronze medallist Faith Cherotich have agreed to adopt a specific strategy in order to end Kenya’s Olympic steeplechase drought.
She opened her season with a win at the African Games before proceeding to the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen where she won the race in 8:55.40. Chepkoech then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, where she won the race.
She then finished second at the Prefontaine Classic before finishing second at the National Trials for the XXXIII Olympics Games at the Nyayo National Stadium.
She also claimed a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships, to start her season on a high. The two are the only ones confirmed for the steeplechase at the moment.
