Conseslus Kipruto was the man of honour during the time but he has been battling a series of injuries and is yet to come back fully leaving the mantle to the upcoming steeplechasers who are having a hard time adapting to the changing times.
During this year’s edition of the championships in the Hungarian capital, Kenya sent three men to compete in the 3000m SC and Abraham Kibiwott was the only one who managed to finish in the podium bracket after a third-place finish.
Kenya might not be able to reclaim the title anytime soon since Bakkali is still going and it seems like no one will be able to stop him at the moment.
In an interview with CGTN Africa, Bakkali noted that after his World Championships feat, his focus now shifts to the Olympic Games next year.
“I will remain in control of this middle-distance race until the point I will not be able to represent my country or until the time I will not be able to contribute to Moroccan sports. I hope that I will be able to represent my country at the Olympic Games next year,” Bakkali said.
His coach, Albarnousi Moutaleb also noted that Bakkali is a smart runner who knows how to use his tactics well and is definitely going places.
