Kenya has been in Category A since 2016 but measures are being put in place to reduce the doping cases.

Since 2016, Kenya has been on Category A of the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) compliance watch list and has not fared any better since then.

Being in Category A predisposes Kenya to a lot of risks including being banned since the country has the highest doping risk in the sport.

In 2017, Kenya recorded the highest number of doping cases which were at 57. So far this year, 25 cases have already been filed and fingers are crossed regarding the menace.

Sports PS Peter Tum has revealed that the reason why Kenya is still in the category is because the country needs to have reached a certain level in terms of testing.

The government committed to set aside approximately Ksh709,250,000 as they seek to end the doping menace.

“The reason why we are still there is because we need to have reached a certain level in terms of testing. We have put in place very stringent rules when it comes to testing through ADAK and they have really done well.

"That’s why AIU is impressed with our efforts and they have now joined hands in helping us to end the menace. We have now reinforced the testing and we have more officers. It is only that we have not reached the WADA level but we are improving slowly,” Tum said.

He revealed that they have called the Ministry of Health on board and they have since trained more testing officers who have been beneficial. He added that the testing officers are dispatched everywhere in the country and that is a boost for ADAK and the Ministry of Sports.

“The collaboration has to be enhanced to ensure that everything works out seamlessly and enable us to be on course,” he insisted.
