Athletics Kenya has explained why their third weekend meeting to be held at the Nyayo National Stadium is important for all the athletes.

Athletics Kenya has announced that the third-weekend meeting to be held at the Nyayo National Stadium will be used as a qualifier for various international events.

The event is scheduled for Friday, January 26, and Saturday, January 27 and AK has advised athletes who wish to make the cut to the national team for this season’s global bonanzas to show up and compete.

In a press statement, AK said: “Athletics Kenya will host the 3rd AK Track and Field Weekend Meet at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th January 2024."

"It will be used as a qualifier for various international championships and is open to all athletes.”

The events scheduled for the weekend include the men’s and women’s 100m, 100m/110m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 400 mH, 800m, 1500m, 3000m SC, 5000m, 10,000m, and the 4x400m.

Other events lined up include the 4x100m, High jump, Long jump, Triple jump, Shot put, Discus, Hammer, Javelin, 10km race walk, Pole Vault, and the combined events.

“All athletes will be required to collect their numbers in PERSON on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Nyayo Stadium starting 9 am to 6 pm," added AK.

“Any athlete who fails to collect their bib numbers on the date indicated above will not be allowed to compete.”

They also emphasised that they will use the meet, together with other meetings when considering athletes to be invited for the Trials for African Games and as such they encouraged athletes to participate in Nyayo Stadium.
