Youngster Emmanuel Wanyonyi has insisted that his main focus is on the Olympic Games and hinted at possibly missing the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Reigning World 800m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi is not resting on his laurels as he seeks to qualify for the Olympic Games scheduled for Paris, France later this year.
After a great start to his season at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country, Wanyonyi could not stop emphasizing how the Olympic Games mean a lot to him and why he wants to make his maiden appearance at the event.

Purity Chepkirui has been out of competition due to an injury but she announced her return with a win at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country.
“I want to compete at this year’s Olympics because that is such a huge event and it only comes after every four years,” Wanyonyi said.
As he prepares for the global bonanza, Wanyonyi is slowly sharpening his claws through training extensively as he plans on where to open his track season.
He also expressed uncertainty ahead of the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana, noting that his body is yet to pick up well.
“I’m just building up slowly for the Olympics through running this cross-country and then going for my build-up and see how my body is responding as I look for where to run next.
“I can’t say I will run the All-African Games because my body is yet to pick up well but I doubt if I will compete there,” he said.
The former World Under-20 800m champion also explained that his coach will determine the Diamond League Meetings that he will compete in.

Bernard Koech, the Haspa Marathon reigning champion will be up against his compatriot Samwel Mailu at the 2024 edition of the event.
“My coach is the one to decide where I will run but competing in such events gives me more experience on how to tackle races in the senior category,” Wanyonyi said.
Meanwhile, Wanyonyi made headlines last year, making it to the podium at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, just at the age of 19.
He also beat the reigning World 800m champion at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final, to take the trophy home. He comes back this season with a lot in store for his fans as he is just getting started.
