A look into Melissa Jefferson, Sha'Carri Richardson's training mate who sealed her ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games alongside the world 100m champion and Twanisha Terry.

Two-time world champion Melissa Jefferson made the cut to the Olympic team and will join world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson and Twanisha Terry in the women’s 100m to Paris, France.

During the USATF Olympic trials, Richardson struck with a world leading time of 10.71 in the women’s 100m final, with Jefferson and Terry finishing second and third in respective times of 10.80 and 10.89.

Many might be wondering who Jefferson is, the 23-year-old who has been making headlines in recent days with her impeccable form in the women’s sprints. The American sprint queen was born on February 21, 2001 and she currently attends and competes at Coastal Carolina University.

She won the NCAA Indoor 60m Championship in 2022 and also reigned supreme in the 100m at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to qualify for the 2022 World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, making her debut at the global bonanza.

The American reached the final of the event, finishing eighth and later also competed in the women’s 4x100m relay team that earned a gold medal. Jefferson also represented the US at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

She was part of the team that stunned the Jamaicans to take top honours in the women’s 4x100m relay team. In April 2024, Jefferson was a member of the USA team which won the 4 x 100m relay at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas.

Jefferson also claimed a win in the women’s 100m at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold LA Grand Prix meet last month.

She trains with Richardson and Terry at the Star Athletics Club under the tutelage of head coach Dennis Mitchell and the trio will be out to fly the American flag high at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games going up against tough opposition from the Jamaicans.
