Fans have expressed concerns over the exclusion of Olympic champions Sifan Hassan and Keely Hodgkinson from the World Athletics 2024 Women’s Track Athlete of the Year nominees list, which includes stars like Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

World Athletics earlier today announced the nominees for the 2024 Women’s Track Athlete of the Year and fans are concerned over the exclusion of Olympic champions Sifan Hassan and Keely Hodgkinson.

The list comprises three-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon and double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet. Both Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet also broke world records this season.

Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred and 400m hurdles world record holder and Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone have also been included in the coveted list with Olympic 400m champion Marileidy Paulino and Triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas rounding up the list.

However, fans have questioned why reigning Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan and Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson have not made it to the list.

Commenting on a post shared by World Athletics, one fan wrote: “Sifan Hussain all day long for me, not even on the list.”

Another added: “Why not @keelyhodgkinson she has been amazing?”

Another fan questioned: “How did Keely Hodgkinson not make this list?! She won the Olympic and European 800m and was unbeaten over 800m all season!”

“The only battle should be between Sifan Hassan and Beatrice Chebet, but am not seeing Sifan anywhere,” another fan wrote.

“Where’s Keely?” another questioned as one of the fans also asked: “Where’s Sifan?”

Sifan Hassan was one of the most impressive athletes at the Paris Olympic Games. The Dutchwoman claimed bronze medals in the 5000m and 10,000m and claimed the win in the marathon. She had also raced at the Tokyo Marathon earlier in the season where she finished fourth.

On her part, Keely Hodgkinson has been impressive this season, going unbeaten in the women’s 800m. She claimed wins at the Prefontaine Classic, FBK Games in Hengelo, European Championships and the Diamond League Meeting in London. She was forced to end her season after winning gold at the Paris Olympic Games due to a slight injury setback.
