Ferdinand Omanyala will feature in one more event, the FBK Games in Hangelo, before the Paris Olympics but what is in store for him and his rivals?

Ferdinand Omanyala will take part in the FBK Games in Hangelo, Netherlands on Sunday in what is his last event before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Omanyala will be up against top sprinters such as Canadian Andre De Grasse, the Olympics 200m champion and 100m bronze medalist, with six men on the entry list having dipped under 10 seconds.

It will be an opportunity for the Commonwealth Games champion to gauge his levels of preparedness ahead of the Olympics where he hopes for a good outing following his semi-final at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

The BFK Games. which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, will attract a tidy sum in prize money for athletes featuring in both premium and discretionary disciplines.

Omanyala’s 100m race is among the premium events which will attract a larger sum with winners set to pocket €5,000 (Ksh696,044) with second and third place attracting €3,000 (Ksh417,626) and €2,000 (Ksh278,417) respectively.

Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place will attract €1,200 (Ksh167,050), €1,000 (Ksh139,208), €700 (Ksh97,446), €600 (Ksh83,525) and €500 (Ksh69,604) in that order.

Besides De Grasse (9.89), Omanyala’s other rivals who have managed a sub-10 are Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown (9.97), American Ronnie Baker (9.83), Reece Prescod of Great Britain (9.93) and home favourite Churandy Martina (9.91).

Omanyala currently has the second fastest time in the world after clocking 9.79 at the Kenyan Olympics trials in Nairobi in June which makes him one of the favourites for victory in Hangelo.
