Jacobs announced his decision to end the 2024 season via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing a mix of contentment and resolve.
"We’ve reached the end of an intense season.This year, we achieved important milestones, like running under 10 seconds in multiple races, something I hadn’t felt in a while. We brought Italy to the final in both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay, and I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on," Jakob wrote.
Despite his high expectations, Jacobs fell short at the Paris Olympics, where he lost his 100m title to American sprinter Noah Lyles.
Jacobs’ performance at the Games was underwhelming compared to his stellar showing in Tokyo, where he won gold in both the 100m and 4x100m relay.

Throughout the 2024 Diamond League season, Jacobs' performances were inconsistent with his best result being a fourth-place finish in both Silesia and Oslo.
These results contrasted sharply with his previous achievements underscoring the challenges he faced throughout the season. The former 100m Olympic champion was visibly frustrated by his inability to reach the podium in any of the Diamond League events.
