Former Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has ended his 2024 track season after a disappointing Paris Olympics, focusing on future goals.

Former Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has announced the conclusion of his 2024 track and field season just ahead of the Diamond League final.

The Italian sprinter, who dominated the Tokyo 2020 Games by securing two gold medals, faced a stark contrast in Paris where he was unable to clinch a single medal.

Jacobs announced his decision to end the 2024 season via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing a mix of contentment and resolve.

"We’ve reached the end of an intense season. This year, we achieved important milestones, like running under 10 seconds in multiple races, something I hadn’t felt in a while. We brought Italy to the final in both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay, and I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on," Jakob wrote.

Despite his high expectations, Jacobs fell short at the Paris Olympics, where he lost his 100m title to American sprinter Noah Lyles.

Jacobs’ performance at the Games was underwhelming compared to his stellar showing in Tokyo, where he won gold in both the 100m and 4x100m relay.

In Paris, he was unable to replicate that success and finished without a medal.

The disappointment extended beyond the Olympics into the Diamond League events, where Jacobs struggled to maintain his form.

At the Rome Diamond League meet, he finished ninth in the Men's 100m with a time of 10.20 seconds. This was a particularly discouraging outcome for Jacobs, who had hoped to rebound from his Olympic setbacks.

The race was won by Letsile Tebogo the 200m Olympic champion with a time of 9.87 seconds.

Throughout the 2024 Diamond League season, Jacobs' performances were inconsistent with his best result being a fourth-place finish in both Silesia and Oslo.

These results contrasted sharply with his previous achievements underscoring the challenges he faced throughout the season. The former 100m Olympic champion was visibly frustrated by his inability to reach the podium in any of the Diamond League events.

Looking ahead, Jacobs has set his sights firmly on the 2025 season and is is particularly focused on the upcoming World Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Tokyo.

"Now, my focus is on next year, with one goal in mind: Tokyo," Jacobs said.

"It’s a track that holds so many emotions for me, from my first Olympics, and I can’t wait to return and relive those unforgettable moments."
