Former world and Olympics champion Justin Gatlin wants to see more athletes following in the footsteps of Mondo Duplantis and Karsten Warholm by setting up different showdowns.
Duplantis competed against Karsten in the 100m at the Zurich Diamond League last week in an event proclaimed “100m to settle it all” between the world pole vault and 400m hurdles record-holders.
Duplantis claimed the bragging rights when he clocked 10.37 to Warholm’s 10.47 to win the race to the delight of fans in the stadium and those watching across the world and Gatlin says track and field needs more of those.

Mondo Duplantis has clarified whether he will be open to challenging Femke Bol and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to a race after obliterating Karsten Warholm.
“We love the one-v-one, that was exciting, neither one of them were elite sprinters and if you look at how the stadium was, it was packed and this was not even the day of the real competition, they did it a day before," Gatlin said on his Ready Set Go Podcast.
The US print legend was wowed by the setup of the whole event especially when both Duplantis and Warholm entered the Letzigrund Stadium with boxing style walk-ons while dressed in cloaks to the backdrop of hype music.
Fans, estimated to be 2,600, filled the stand on the home straight and that combined with clever use of lighting, smoke and post-race fireworks created a truly spectacular event.

“They put it together, made it happen, fireworks. Their whole setup and their event looked better than most events that we have been to at elite level.”
