'We need one of us too, it’s time'- Julius Yego slams constant leadership changes in Kenya's Sports Ministry, calls for stability

Julius Yego has criticised the frequent leadership changes in Kenya's Sports Ministry and called for stability and progress.

The 2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego has slammed the government for constantly shaking up leadership in the Ministry of Sports.

The sports docket has been affected during all the changes being made and the former Olympic Games silver medallist has insisted that it is now time for change, calling on all sports people and stakeholders to deliberate the way forward.

Yego noted that they should get a retired athlete or sportsperson to manage the docket since the changes have become too much and it is affecting the normal activities of sports in the country.

For instance, Kenya intends to co-host CHAN early next year and the stadiums need to be ready by then but from the look of things, the project might not hit the deadline with the constant changes.

“All sports men and women we need a serious discussion on the management and leadership of the sport ministry with the government!” Yego said.

“This ministry need to be stabilized and given same respect as other ministries, with due respect to who are bestowed to lead and serve, we need one of us too it’s time.”

Ababu Namwamba was first appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for sports, working hand-in-hand with Jonathan Mueke before the latter was moved to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Development.

After that, Ababu Namwamba was replaced by Kipchumba Murkomen who was moved from managing the Roads, Transport, and Public Works.

Just days ago, the Ministry of Sports faced another change with Murkomen being moved to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Salim Mvurya has now been appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.

Mvurya has also been affected by the numerous changes after he was first appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs before being moved to the Investments, Trade and Industry docket.
