Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala reveals why he opted to race in Thika.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has said participating at the second leg of the Athletics Kenya and Field Meeting in Thika was part of his preparations for the new season.
The Commonwealth Games champion whose skipped the World Indoor Tour Meetings that have been used to gauge his preparations, launched his 2025 season at the murram track in Thika on Friday February 28.

The 29-year-old won the 100m heats easily and speaking after his victory, he told Mozzartsports: “Coming to compete here wasn’t because of any competition or any targets. It is about to see where my body is. I just came here to tell other athletes that we are together. We all start from somewhere.”

Omanyala claims his journey to sprints dates back to 2015. Omanyala, whose first love was rugby as a chemistry student at the University of Nairobi, gave a shot at athletics in a murram track in Mumias.
