Viola Chepngeno has confirmed where she intends to open her 2024 season.

2022 Boston Half Marathon champion Viola Chepngeno has been confirmed for the Santa Pola Half Marathon in Spain on Sunday, January 21.

Chepngeno will lead a strong field that will bid to shatter the existing course record set by Pauline Nagoroi during the 2022 edition of the race. The Kenyan clocked 1:07:15 to cut the tape. The Kenyan will be keen to open her season at the event, after an eventful 2023 season.

Chepngeno will face opposition from other top runners including the Ethiopian duo of Zewditu Aderaw and Tegest Avelaw Ymer whose Personal Best times stand at 1:07:38 and 1:08:36 respectively.

Meanwhile, the men’s race will also be one to watch as the athletes brace up to attack the course record of 59:09 set by Kenya’s Alexander Mutiso. Elite athletes confirmed include Bedan Karaoke Muchiri, Ethiopia’s Andamlak Belihu Berta, and Bravin Kipkogei Kiptoo from Kenya.

Meanwhile, more than 5,500 runners including more than 400 foreign athletes have confirmed participation and are preparing to enjoy the exciting day in the thirty-second edition of the International Half Marathon.

This race is one of the most prestigious in Spain, the most popular in the province of Alicante and the second most important in the Valencian Community, being only surpassed by the Valencia Half Marathon.

Among the foreign participants, there are athletes from countries such as Kenya, the United Kingdom, Norway, Poland, France, Ireland, Sweden and Belgium, among others.
