Olympics 100m champion Julien Alfred has opened up on how mean and hateful comments on social media have made her detest the platforms.
Olympics 100m champion Julien Alfred has shared that the vile comments she receives from social media has made her detest it.
Alfred has been one of the most successful athletes this season and crowned it with the Diamond League title on Friday but her success has come with a lot of hate from a section of fans who support her rivals.
The 23-year-old says she has had to have a tough skin to cope with the negative comments directed her way and that is why she limits her presence on the platforms to avoid it affecting her career.

Noah Lyles' mother honours promise she made to Julien Alfred over a year ago
Noah Lyles' mother Keisha Cane Bishop has finally honoured a promise she made to reigning Olympic champion Julien Alfred after meeting her at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
“Some of the mean comments on social media sometimes. If you go to YouTube and watch a race, you will see all those mean comments popping up and I am proud of myself for just ignoring and being strong mentally and getting back up despite the circumstances,” Alfred told The Inside Lane.
“It is a very tough place and a mean place and you know I am really happy I have a coach who can keep me strong and keep ground ad have a group around me that can keep me grounded and keep level-headed.”
The St Lucian was already receiving hate on social media this weekend when some fans said she does not have what it takes to become the face of sprinting after stealing the spotlight from world champion Sha’Carri Richardson this year.
Unlike the bubbly and very opinionated Richardson, who is never shy to speak her mind, Alfred prefers to do her talking on the track and it is those contrasting personalities that have some fans discrediting her.
Alfred has limited her social media to just her work and she does not have a large number of followers as a result, unlike some of her rivals who have millions following them across multiple platforms.
