Usain Bolt Moves Closer to Compensation After SSL Fraud But Full Justice Still Hangs in the Balance

Usain Bolt and other victims of the SSL fraud case are set to receive partial compensation, but full justice remains elusive as the government’s action is still crucial to resolving the issue.

Usain Bolt might be getting closer to justice since Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) has promised to partially compensate the victims who lost their money in their multibillion-dollar fraud case.

The fastest man alive lost about $12 million in an investment fraud case about two years ago and has been working around the clock to recover his money but all hope had been lost.

Usain Bolt was not the only victim since it was reported that at the time, about $30 million from 200 investors was lost.

A notice shared on April 3 by the trustee of the SSL Victims Compensation Fund Caydion Campbell, suggested all the victims will start receiving partial payments from May.

Caydion Campbell explained that there has been a fund set aside to facilitate the payouts to the victims of the alleged fraud. To be on the list of receiving the compensation, victims need to send proof of claims by April 30.

“We are seeking to make a partial distribution to these clients in May 2025 and invite all affected clients, who have not yet done so, to submit their POCs. Your submission should include any supporting documentation or other forms of evidence to substantiate actual losses suffered due to the alleged fraudulent activities,” the notice, as seen by Jamaica Gleaner read.

Appearing on the Fix podcast, Usain Bolt noted that he has waited for two years and nothing has been done.

The eight-time Olympic champion revealed that he has been applying pressure for everything to work out but it seems like there is a stagnation.

Usain Bolt explained that the Jamaican government is the only entity capable of fixing the problem but has slowed down.

“It’s been two years, and I can’t come to you and say it’s reached here or we’re looking up or down. It reaches nowhere; it’s almost at a stalemate. Something has to happen; some fixing has to go on,” Usain Bolt said.

“The government alone can do something big ‘bout this. They are the only person who can go in and say this needs to be fixed. It’s been two years. There have been conversations, but nothing has materialised out of those talks. If they were doing enough, it would reach a certain level already.”

While Usain Bolt and the other victims of the SSL fraud case are taking a step closer to receiving partial compensation, the journey to full justice remains far from over.

With the government’s involvement still crucial, there is hope that the ongoing efforts will eventually bring the resolution Usain Bolt and others have been waiting for. However, until then, the fight for complete accountability continues.
