Twanisha Terry has explained Sha’Carri Richardson’s biggest strength that Team USA will always use as a weapon in every relay race.

Twanisha Terry has explained how Sha’Carri Richardson’s top-end-speed makes her a lethal weapon for Team USA in relays after she anchored them to Olympics gold in 4x100m.

Sha’Carri Richardson was the toast for Team USA at the Paris Olympics when she completed a remarkable comeback to beat Team Britain and Germany and claim gold in the 4x100m relay.

Terry, a training mate of Sha’Carri Richardson, says working close with the world 100m champion has allowed her to learn a number of tactics and also understand her strengths which she is thankful that they can employ to good effect.

“Throughout the season, we see each other’s strengths and weaknesses. So, like for instance, Sha’Carri, we know she has excellent top-end speed. She’s going to hold down the fourth leg no matter what,” Terry said during a conversation with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller.

During the 4x100m relay final, Melissa Jefferson started the race for Team USA before passing the baton to Twanisha Terry who would hand it to Gabby Thomas and the Olympics 200m champion gave it to Sha’Carri Richardson to complete the race.

However, by the time Gabby Thomas was handing it over to Sha’Carri Richardson, Team Britain and Germany had already surged ahead but the Dallas native summoned a great finishing kick to outsprint them both and claim victory, giving them a defiant stare in the process.

“You know we kinda just play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses and then the coach has input in it too,” added Terry.

Terry is thankful that her ‘sisters’ came through in a big way as she was able to leave the Olympics with a gold medal.

“If it wasn’t for them, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here right now. They pushed me in ways I never knew I could be pushed. The group in itself, it takes you to another level mentally.”
