The trio of World champion Mary Moraa, World silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson, and World bronze medallist Athing Mu has confirmed when they will lock horns for the first time this season.

The trio of Mary Moraa, Athing Mu, and Keely Hodgkinson will lock horns at the fifth leg of the Diamond League Meeting, the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA on Saturday, May 25.

The trio has not clashed since last year’s Diamond League Meeting that happened at the Hayward Field in Eugene where Mu, the reigning World 800m bronze medallist beat Moraa to the title.

Hodgkinson, the World 800m silver medallist finished second in the race as Jamaica’s Natoya Goule completed the podium in the tight race. Moraa, the reigning World 800m champion finished just outside the podium place, settling for fourth place after a long season of being unbeaten in the 800m race.

Last season, Moraa also stunned defending champion Mu to take the top prize at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Kisii Express made history by becoming only the third Kenyan woman to win gold in the 800m after Eunice Sum and Janeth Jepkosgei.

The trio now goes head-to-head once again at the Prefontaine Classic, one of the favourite races Mu loves to run since it will be on home soil and fans will come out in large numbers to cheer her on.

On her part, Moraa has been off to a great start of the season and she will be hoping to build on that and make history with Team Kenya once again. She started off by winning a gold medal in the 400m at the African Games in Accra, Ghana, an indication that her speed was okay.

The 23-year-old then proceeded to bag a bronze medal with the 4x400m mixed relay team in Ghana as she propelled them to a podium place.

She is now gearing up for the Kip Keino Classic on Saturday, April 20, where she intends to run her first 800m race of the season before going to the Bahamas for the World Relays scheduled for May 4 and 5 (Saturday and Sunday).

On her part, Hodgkinson is yet to open her 2024 season after withdrawing from the World Indoor Championships but she has been training hard ahead of her season opener which she is yet to announce.
