Sha’Carri Richardson credits track and field for helping her break out of her shell, and embrace her unique personality on and off the track.

On the track, Sha’Carri Richardson is a beast, from her personality to her exploits, she announces her arrival with a statement but she was never like that growing up.

The reigning world 100m champion was quite reserved and venturing into track is what unleashed her true self, at least that’s what she said in an interview with the Running Things podcast.

Richardson revealed that only those close to her got to see her real side from time to time but when she started competing, that’s when the world knew her capabilities, on and off the track.

She admitted that being labelled the fastest made her connect with her inner self and become more aware of her abilities, making her embrace her unique personality.

“Actually, I feel like track brought it out. Younger girl was a little quiet. If you got to know me, you saw me. You saw this side,” Sha’Carri Richardson admitted in an interview.

“But if you didn't know me enough, no. I think track definitely was that shell that brought me out because it kind of brought, like I said, popularity to me.

“When I was like, 'to me, that was kind of me.' I was that track girl, that fast girl.' So, it kind of slowly brought me out of a bubble.”

The reigning Olympic 100m silver medallist added that being an athlete has made her learn very many things, travelling all around the world and meeting different people from different nations.

Being an athlete is indeed an eye-opener for Richardson who continues to inspire many young athletes and make a mark on the global stage.

“Not saying, I was shy naturally but it's just like I was just to myself and it just brought me out of a bubble and it just exposed me to different things and just experienced the different things, different people just brought me right out this, Sha'Carri,” she said.

Just in the 2024 season, Richardson won the silver medal in the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympic Games and anchored the women’s 4x100m relay team to victory.

The American sprint queen hopes to defend her 100m title at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan and upgrade her bronze medal in the 200m.

Richardson has since resumed training and is working around the clock alongside her partner Christian Coleman who joined her training camp in 2024.
