Nigeria's contingent at the African Games had a memorable outing that needs to be duly rewarded
Team Nigeria put up an outstanding performance at the just-concluded 13th African Games held in Ghana.
Nigeria’s athlete queen Tobi Amusan, did not disappoint as she won a third consecutive 100m hurdle in a time of 12.89s.
Amusan became the first-ever woman in the Games history to achieve three consecutive Gold medals in the 100m hurdle event and preserved Nigeria's unbeaten legacy of winning the event since the Game's inception in 1965 in Brazzaville (Congo).

Meanwhile, Ese Brume became Nigeria’s first woman since Modupe Oshikoya (1973 and 1978) to successfully defend a long jump title in African Games history, recording a distance of 6.92m (+3.9m/s).
Okezie won Nigeria’s first Gold medal in 37 years in the men's 400m, running a lightning-fast Personal Best (PB) of 45.06s. Nigeria also won Gold in the 4x100m relays in both the male and female categories.
One outstanding feat at the African Games was when Nigeria's Omolara Ogunmakinju chased down her Botswanan opponent, closing a 30m gap and turning Silver into Gold for Nigeria in the 4x400m mixed relays.

For all of these historic feats and many more that Nigerian athletes achieved, flying the Green and White flag high in Ghana, how much were they compensated with?
A statement by Diana-Mary Nsan, an aide to sports minister Senator John Enoh, outlined the exact amount each athlete would get.
She revealed that many athletes had doubts and fears regarding payment, but the sports ministry has restored that trust and confidence.
