Timothy Cheruiyot has finally reacted to Jakob Ingebrigtsen's dive at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo and revealed what the Norwegian told him when they met at the gym the next day.

Olympic Games 1500m silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot has for the first time spoken to the media about Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s dive at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo, Norway.

The 2019 world champion revealed that he thought he had won the race before he saw Ingebrigtsen diving at the finish line to take the win. At first, Cheruiyot also thought that the two-time world 5000m had hurt himself after the fall but it was the Norwegian’s tactic to win the race.

Speaking on the Safari za Mabingwa show hosted by Oga Obinna, Cheruiyot noted that after the race, he met up with Ingebrigtsen at the gym and the 23-year-old told him to learn how to dive next time he competes against him.

“During the race, I thought I had won the race and when we got to the finish line I saw him fall and I thought he had hurt himself but he knew what he was doing. We talked the following day, we met at the gym and he told me, ‘Next time, learn to dive.’,” Cheruiyot said.

“At the moment, I’m learning how to run through the line and finishing 10m after the finish line. Those microseconds are very important.”

The 28-year-old will be making his second Olympic appearance at the Paris Olympic Games, hoping to improve his silver medal from the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

He was in action at last year’s World Championships but left empty handed due to a nagging injury that has slowed him down. He finished ninth in the semifinal and failed to proceed to the final.

However, Cheruiyot is slowly bouncing back to competition and this season, he has been consistent in posting great results.
