'This is strange' - Usain Bolt on the harsh realities he faced in formative years amid comparison with talent freak Gout Gout

Bolt was a world beater at 15 but losing several meets made the Jamaican sprint legend realize the herculean task he had to face head-on on his way to the top.

Three-time Olympic 100m champion Usain Bolt  has said he did not understand the concept of being great when he was 15 years old despite her great potential.

The Jamaican sprints legend who is a three-time Olympic 200m champion revealed that losing in meets felt strange to him but that made him understand the sacrifice that it takes to become a serial winner.

"I remember when I got to the professional level, and I felt like it was just going to be easy. I got to the stage where I would go to meets and I would lose. And I was like, ‘This is strange, this is new’. So it took me a while to understand," the 11-time world champion told High Performance Podcast.

Bot, who finally offered his verdict on Gout Gout after the 16-year-old broke his record, added: "When I started out, I didn’t understand the concept of being great because I was young. I was 15 when I won the world juniors, I was really young and I was really talented so I didn’t have to work as hard as it was just talent, as I was winning and winning."

The Jamaican still holds the world records for both the 100m and 200m, which he set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.

Bolt's dominance of the 100m was such that he smashed the world record on three separate occasions, with his 9.58 second personal best
