Noah Lyles' girlfriend Junelle Bromfield has given a detailed account of her fear of travelling to her home country, Jamaica to visit her family as she fears for her life.

Junelle Bromfield has opened up about her fear of going back to her home country Jamaica, due to the numerous death threats she had received before, during and after the Olympic Games.

The Jamaican quarter-miler, speaking in an interview on Sim Soul Sessions pointed out that she had to turn off her social media following the bad wishes her fellow Jamaicans would text her in her inbox.

Junelle Bromfield expressed her wishes to go and visit her family but noted that she is afraid of what might happen to her once she lands in Jamaica, insisting that she is just waiting for the right time.

“I mean, during the Olympics and even before, I had to turn off my inbox because I was getting death threats from people. I had Jamaicans in my inbox saying that they wished my foot gets broken when I’m running at the Olympics and if I came home, they were going to basically kill me. I didn’t feel like it was the right time even though I wanted to go back home and see my family,” Bromfield said.

Noah Lyles’ girlfriend added that growing up in Jamaica, she struggled with a lot and had a lot of trauma to heal from after growing up. Junelle Bromfield noted that people would make mean comments and pretend not to mean anything but such words would pierce through her heart.

The two-time Olympian chose to go for therapy, highly recommended by her boyfriend Lyles and she is taking baby steps on her way to making things right with herself and elevating her brand.

“That’s because I grew up in Jamaica and only came here about two years ago. Growing up, I felt like people were always doing things without knowing how much hurt they might cause. It could be families, or friends who say stuff and they don’t know that they are basically creating trauma in children and adults,” Junelle Bromfield said.

“When they say it, they are like ‘Oh, we don’t mean anything by it’, but it’s not about the person who is tossing the insult but it’s how the person takes it,” she added.
