Since Usain Bolt’s retirement, Jamaica has struggled to make an impact on the global stage but times might just be changing soon with the presence of Kishane Thompson, Ackeem Blake and Oblique Seville.
The four-time Olympic champion, speaking on Netflix’s Sprint docuseries explained that things are about to get heated in the coming years. At the 2022 and 2023 World Championships in Eugene and Budapest, Americans dominated the men’s 100m and 200m races.

Top 5 richest female track and field athletes
Track and field stars have been raking in the big bucks from their running careers and endorsement drals but who are the richest female runners in the world?
Fred Kerley won the 100m with Noah Lyles claiming top honours in the 200m in 2022. Noah Lyles then stamped authority in 2023, winning the 100m and 200m races as Jamaicans struggled to make an impact in both editions of the event.
At this year’s Paris Olympic Games, Jamaicans hoped things would turn out for the better but Kishane Thompson was only as good as a second-place finisher with Noah Lyles taking the win in the race. Oblique Seville faded to an eighth-place finish in the tight final.
“The Jamaicans want to get back in top of the men’s sprints, especially seeing how the Americans have been dominating. They want a new king,” Michael Johnson said.
Kishane Thompson has already been primed as the next Usain Bolt and from his exceptional running talent, he will surely take Jamaica back to the top. The Jamaican youngster has struggled with injuries in the past seasons, forcing him to miss several global championships.
The Paris Olympic Games were his first of many and going forward, his management will be working around the clock to ensure he stays injury-free and competes in many events going forward. He capped off his season as the fastest man in the world in 2024.
Oblique Seville, the only man to have beaten Noah Lyles in the 100m this season is also one to watch in the coming seasons. He was hoping to impress at the Paris Olympic Games but failed to live up to the billing. He will be eyeing a great comeback next season.
