Marco Arop praised the exceptional talent and record-challenging times of today’s 800m athletes spearheaded by Emmanuel Wanyonyi, predicting that David Rudisha's world record will soon be broken.

He lauded the current crop of 800m runners, explaining that they are extremely talented and are not sleeping on their abilities.
Marco Arop also acknowledged Emmanuel Wanyonyi who started the trend at the Kenyan Olympic trials where he clocked a stunning 1:41.70 to win the race before heading to the Diamond League Meeting in Paris where he finished second in a time of 1:41.58. AK welcomes World Mountain Running president ahead of Mt. Longonot Trail Challenge showdown
Athletics Kenya has welcomed World Mountain Running president Tomo Sarf as Kenya is poised to make history, hosting its inaugural Mountain Running World Ranking event.
Sedjati proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he reigned supreme in 1:41.46. At the Paris Olympic Games, fast times were also witnessed with Emmanuel Wanyonyi claiming the win in 1:41.19 as Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati finished second and third in respective times of 1:41.20 and 1:41.50.
Wanyonyi extended the hot streak to the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne where he came close to shattering David Rudisha’s world record. The Kenyan youngster clocked 1:41.11.
Speaking about the evolution of the 800m, Marco Arop said: “This I guess you could say the next generation of 800m athletes. And they are in their primes. It’s just incredible when one person does something incredible, and everybody else just buys into it.”
Next season will also set a stage for the 800m runners in the race for the world record and it will just be a matter of when they do it. With the likes of Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Marco Arop, Djamel Sedjati and Gabriel Tual, the 800m will be very interesting to follow in the next couple of years.
In a previous interview, Marco Arop explained that they have mastered the art of running and if all the athletes train well and keep fit, the world record will go down.
“I think so, I think so, we are so close…this year we figured it out, how to pace ourselves, how to manage and distribute our energy and as long as we continue this progression or the trajectory, we shall get under 1:41 soon. I’m hoping all the guys stay healthy and keep training, we’ll be back next year and some faster times will come,” Arop said.
