'There's no place like New York' - Hellen Obiri affirms intent to defend New York City marathon title
Hellen Obiri is relying on her familiarity with the course to confidently navigate her way to a potential victory.
“I’d advise couples to support each other. There is no competition in marriage. Support each other’s shared goals. It’s always good to view yourself in the years to come, and not just in the present life. That will drive you to take big steps and make big moves,” Tony Nyaundi said.
“She taught me to be focused and to work hard and smart. I’ve also learned to have humility and trust. Great heroes are humble. Thoughts are powerful and you can make them possible,” he added.
He explained that coming from Kisii has also shaped how he conducts himself, explaining that they have a sense of community.
After relocating to the US, Tony Nyaundi noted that they stay in a beautiful environment and the people there are very supportive and friendly but just like any other place, there are challenges they are bound to face.
Nyaundi pointed out that they had no choice since relocating was for the common good of the family as they were able to explore great opportunities. He added that Hellen Obiri was looking to continue building her career and moving to the US guaranteed that.
