Hellen Obiri won the Boston and New York City Marathon wearing shoes reportedly designed for triathletes.

Hellen Obiri has recently made headlines thanks to her impeccable performance that saw her clinch the 2023 New York City Marathon title.

Obiri was just competing in her third marathon since she made her full marathon debut at the 2022 New York City Marathon where she finished sixth. She then went back to the drawing board and came to clinch the Boston Marathon title earlier this year.

The two-time World 5000m champion was not done yet as she clinched top honours in the just-concluded New York City Marathon to end her season.

One thing that stood out was her pair of shoes that propelled her to victory in both World Marathon Majors.

She wore the mysterious On CloudTri 1 running shoe made by On Holding and it is reportedly a shoe built for triathletes.

As reported by Runner’s World, her shoes look to be the same shoe that caused a dustup earlier this year in a tri-race. However, the shoe is also included on the World Athletics list of approved shoes for road races.

The shoe might be costing more than Ksh 25,000 since the previous model which Obiri wore during the 2022 New York City Marathon cost Ksh 24,341.

Obiri wore the Cloudboom Echo 3.0, the company’s first true super shoe for long road races, to finish sixth at the 2022 edition of the marathon in the Big Apple.
