Race organisers have announced the millions set aside for top 12 finishers at the New York City Half Marathon coming up this Sunday.

The top 12 finishers at the New York City Half Marathon will be in for a treat as race organisers have announced the millions set aside as prize money.

Some of the Kenyans who will be competing at the event include 44-year-old Kenyan runner Edna Kiplagat who will be joined by compatriots Gladys Chepkurui, the reigning Tokyo Half Marathon champion, and Cynthia Limo, a World Athletics Championships half-marathon medallist.

Two-time US Olympian and 2018 Boston Marathon champion Desiree Linden will return as the top American finisher from last year's race, having recently finished 11th at the US Olympic Marathon Trials.

The men’s race will be headlined by Ethiopian legendary marathoner Kenenisa Bekele, a four-time Olympic medallist, 16-time world champion, and the third-fastest marathoner in history.

The Kenyan charge will be led by, Abel Kipchumba, the reigning champion of the B.A.A. Boston Half Marathon who owns one of the top 10 half-marathon times in history.

As per the race organisers, the winner of the race will walk away with more than Ksh 3 million in both the men’s and women’s races while the second and third-place finishers will pocket Ksh 1.3 million and Ksh 739,750 respectively.

The athletes who finish fourth, fifth and sixth will also walk to the bank smiling as Ksh 470,750, Ksh 269,000 and Ksh 201,750 will be deposited in their accounts.

The athletes who finish seventh, eighth and ninth will walk away with Ksh 134,500, Ksh 67,250 and Ksh 47,075 respectively. The athletes who finish 10th, 11th and 12th will pocket Ksh 40,350, Ksh 26,900 and Ksh 20,175 respectively.
