Despite finishing third at the World Road Running Championships, Faith Kipyegon will have some money to take back home.
Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon went into the World Road Running Championships on Sunday with the hope of making history one more time but Ethiopians had other plans.
The Ethiopian duo of Diribe Welteji, 21, and Freweyni Hailu outsmarted the Kenyan to take the first two positions and forced her to finish third.

Only three men in history have run under 2:02, and Kiptum is the only marathoner to do it under the age of 35, the world record might be in danger as he heads to the Chicago Marathon.
Welteji clocked a world record time of 4:21.00 as Hailu finished second in 4:23.06. Kipyegon completed the podium after clocking a Personal Best time of 4:24.13.
The Kenyan might not have achieved her target but she will not head home empty-handed, thanks to her finish in the podium bracket.
She will walk away with approximately Ksh511,122 for her third-place finish over the road mile distance, where she was just but debuting.
Welteji will walk away with Ksh 1,460,350 and will be awarded an additional bonus for breaking the world record at the event. Her compatriot, Hailu, will also pocket Ksh Ksh 876,210.

Diribe Welteji, 21, put up a good fight to win the women's road mile and hand Faith Kipyegon her first loss of the season.
Nelly Chepchirchir finished fourth and she will have the honour of pocketing Ksh 292,070. According to World Athletics, the athletes who finish fifth, and sixth will walk away with, Ksh 182,543, and Ksh 146,035 respectively.
The seventh and eighth-place finishers will bag Ksh 109,526 and Ksh 73,017 respectively.
