Daniel Simiu has earned himself millions after striking with another win at the Delhi Half Marathon.

Daniel Simiu will be smiling to the bank one more time after his dominant win at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon.

Simiu oozed class as he sprinted to the finish line to clinch top honours in the race. He clocked 59:27 to cross the finish line ahead of Charles Matata who finished second in a Personal Best time of 1:00:05 and Addisu Gobena who sealed the podium in a time of 1:00:51.

The race organisers revealed that they had set aside approximately Ksh 40 million to award athletes who do well in the elite races.

They further noted that the top 10 International Elite winners will take Ksh 3,990,354 each in men’s and women’s segments.

For any records broken, athletes will have the honour of pocketing an additional Ksh 1,773,490. However, Simiu will not enjoy the additional prize money since he did not break the course record.

The record was set by Ethiopia’s Guye Adola during the 2014 edition of the event and stands at 59:06.

In the women’s race, the athletes will also pocket the same amount but there will be no additional amount since the course record was not broken.

Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana won the race in a time of 1:07:59, missing out on the course record time of 1:06:00 that was set by her compatriot, Tsehay Gemechu during the 2019 edition of the race.
