Marco Arop has challenged Emmanuel Wanyonyi to reignite their 800m rivalry in new showdown.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Marco Arop make the 800m interesting and the Canadian ace has decided to challenge Wanyonyi once again as they look to make the 2025 season interesting.

The Olympic 800m silver medallist signed with Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track League as a racer and he will be contesting the 800m and 1500m.

Ahead of its debut, the league has yet to announce the challengers but will be rolling out their names ahead of the first edition scheduled for Kingston, Jamaica in April.

Marco Arop is excited for the challenge and has called upon Emmanuel Wanyonyi, his serial rival to join him in the league as a challenger.

In a podcast interview with Citius Mag, Arop was asked whom he would challenge to join the league, he quickly mentioned that Wanyonyi should be the first to sign up, showcasing their competitiveness.

He also pointed out Olympic bronze medallist Djamel Sedjati and American Bryce Hoppel to join him in the battle for supremacy.

For the 1500m, Marco Arop challenged Olympic 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Olympic 1500m champion Hobbs Kessler since Josh Kerr has also signed with the league.

“The 1500m is already challenging and I think I’ll start with the 800m. I’m always going to challenge Emmanuel Wanyonyi, I think that’s my biggest rival right now. (Djamel) Sedjati of course and Bryce Hoppel would be an amazing addition,” Arop boldy declared.

“On the 1500m side, Jakob Ingebrigtsen would be pretty cool and I think he is really strong from the 1500m and it would be really cool to see him and the young guy, Hobbs Kessler would also be nice to have him in the mix. Those are the first guys that come to my mind. I love the competition and the idea of having strong competitors is really great.”

Arop and Wanyonyi spiced up the 800m last season and they hope to continue like that in the build up to the 2025 World Championships where the former is the defending champion.

Last season, Wanyonyi stunned Arop to take the Olympic crown and the Diamond Trophy and the Canadian runner eyes a chance for redemption this season. He believes the Grand Slam Track League races will be helpful in his preparations.
