The track and field power couple have disclosed a peculiar career aspiration that Tara Davis-Woodhall had before settling for track and field.

It’s hard to imagine Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall as anything but the accomplished track and field star she is today. However, her childhood dreams once veered far from the sand pits of long jump.

In a lighthearted Q&A session for GQ Sports, Davis-Woodhall and her husband, Paralympian Hunter Woodhall, revealed her surprising childhood ambition of becoming a dolphin trainer.

“What did I wanna be when I was little?” Davis-Woodhall asked her husband.

“A dolphin trainer. That’s what you wanted to be. I hate that I knew that,” Woodhall replied, to which Davis-Woodhall humorously added, “I don’t like to swim. Who’s pushing me in to make sure these dolphins are being put together?”

Woodhall chuckled, summing it up as a not so wise decision to go into a water related profession. “Yeah, that was not a good life plan," he stated.

While dolphins might have been her early fascination, cheerleading also held a special place in her heart.

When asked about her favorite childhood sport outside of track and field, Davis-Woodhall quickly agreed with Woodhall’s answer stating, “Cheerleading.”

Her love for cheerleading has clearly left a lasting impression with Woodhall recounting that his Olympian wife still exhibit those tendencies.

“We were in the club, like in Vegas celebrating two days ago, and you were doing cheerleading chants to the song,” Woodhall recalled with a laugh.

From a young girl dreaming of dolphins to a world-class athlete, Davis-Woodhall’s journey is a testament to how aspirations can evolve.

While her childhood dreams may have involved flips in the water or on a cheer mat, it’s her breathtaking leaps in the sand that have solidified her legacy.
