In an interview with SABC Sport, Letsile Tebogo revealed that he is working with his team diligently to see if he can attain the goal this season. He revealed that lowering his African record is quite easy since he has already done it and it would not be impossible to do it again.

Usain Bolt’s world record time over the distance stands at 19.19 seconds and was set during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Letsile Tebogo’s personal best time in the 200m is 19.46 seconds and in his final races of the 2024 season, the world 100m silver medallist dropped explosive times and he might just shatter the record in 2025. He has yet to compete in a 200m race this season.

"I will say the African record, whenever I want to break it, I just know where to press and touch and then go for it,” Letsile Tebogo revealed.

“I believe the world record is the one that's up there, that needs to be broken, that's where we are building up everything.”

Noah Lyles first declared interest in breaking the record at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and every time he steps on the starting, the record is always at the back of his mind.

Noah Lyles’ personal best time stands at 19.31 seconds and he remains one of the fastest 200m runners in the world.
