South Africa’s sprinting king Akani Simbine is now charged up for an action-packed season following his victory at the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China last weekend.
Simbine, going into the race as an underdog, surprised the whole crowd by taking the top prize in 100m in a time of 10.01. World 60m record holder Christian Coleman and the 2022 World 100m champion Fred Kerley finished second and third in respective times of 10.04 and 10.11.

He is now confident heading into his next event, the World Athletics Relays at the Bahamas scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (May 4 and 5). The South African will then compete at the Atlanta Adidas City Games before heading to the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo.

“Now, we shall go to the Bahamas for the World Relays and then the Atlanta Adidas Games, and then my next Diamond League will be Oslo. From then on, we shall see what to do and where we race and how much training we can do before we get to the Olympics,” Simbine told Citius Mag.
Following his victory, he expressed excitement to have maintained the winning streak from the South African Championships where he also triumphed.
He added that his finishing has always been a stronghold when it comes to sprinting and was glad to have banked on it and taken the win at the Diamond League.
“Yes, I’m happy with the win and the fact that I came out here and replicated what I did at our national championships," he added.
“I’m glad to have had a strong last part of my race because always, that the last part of my race has always been pretty strong and I’m happy with that and looking forward to the rest of my season,” he added.
