The Paris Olympic Games 100m finalist has opened up about what makes him unique from Noah Lyles and other sprinters.

South Africa’s sprinting ace Akani Simbine has disclosed why he does not trash-talk other sprinters despite it being normalized worldwide.

In recent times, Noah Lyles has been the face of trash-talking fellow sprinters, something that is believed to be a way of growing track and field. In an interview with World Athletics, Simbine explained that he lets his results speak for him since sprinting is more of a hands-on activity than talking.

The Olympic Games 100m finalist added that it is entertaining to watch his fellow sprinters talk down about others but he would never do that.

“Sprinting is a physical thing, it’s something that we do. It’s not more of talking. I can talk and say I’m gonna beat you, I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do that but at the end of the day, what matters is what happens on the track,” Simbine said.

“I see the guys doing that, you know, I see them going through the trash-talking, their social media spells, and I watch it, it’s entertaining. At the end of the day, it’s entertainment you know?” he added.

Simbine added that trash-talking is a form of disrespect and he would rather not engage in such activities since he knows how much it takes for athletes to get chances to compete in high-level competitions.

“But I feel like for me it would be so out of character for me to join the bandwagon and trash-talk other athletes. I have a lot of respect for everyone who lines up, a ton of respect because I know what you out in to be here,” Simbine shared.

“I think my performances and my actual work, that I actually put in speak louder than what I would do on social media.”
