American sprint queen Gabby Thomas has opened up on the difficulties she is facing in training as her coach pushes her to get in shape for the 2025 season.

Having seen her attempt to run a mile come off so badly recently, American sprint queen Gabby Thomas is keen not to continue running longer races even if they are crucial in her training.

The 28-year-old may have never run beyond 400m in a competitive event but recently tried her hand at the mile and it left her in bad shape, having clocked 5 minutes and 43 seconds.

Following the race, she was the subject of banter from fans as she went down completely worn out, explaining how sprinters find it tough running longer distances.

Well, longer distances are good for sprinters to build their endurance and speed and it seems Thomas’ coach is not relenting in her push to have her superstar athlete ready for next season.

That includes longer races in practice and Thomas appears not to be enjoying it going by her latest social media post.

“God’s plan for me doesn’t include running anything longer than 250m at practice (Somebody please tell my coach),” she jokingly posted on TikTok.

“She definitely had me running 300s today,” she added, while referring to what her coach Tonja Buford-Bailey, the former US Olympian, took her through on the day.

Thomas had an incredible 2024 season which saw her win the 200m gold at the Paris Olympics before she went on to claim 4x100m and 4x400m relay titles with her Team USA athletes.

Repeating such a feat at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan is the goal next season and that means proper preparations.

Thomas will have to endure the longer races as she needs them to get in shape although with her experience, it is not something new.
