Faith Kipyegon has revealed how support from fans helped her win the Olympics 1500m title despite immense stress owing to her brief disqualification after the 5,000m race.
She noted that when it comes to running on the track, there is no room for pity since everyone is out to make money.
“That’s a race and when you think of the finish line, there is some money to be won so it motivates you to keep going and you have to fight when you see the finish line and knowing that when you cross the line first, you will earn some money,” Faith Kipyegon said.
This season, she has been impressive, notching up victories in a series of her races despite a slight disappointment at the Paris Olympic Games where she was shortly disqualified in the 5000m for allegedly obstructing Gudaf Tsegay but later, her silver medal was reinstated.

Kipyegon was also injured at the start of the season and had to withdraw from a series of Diamond League Meetings before opening her season at the Kenyan Olympic trials. Days later, she went on to break her 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris.
The Kenyan 1500m star then successfully defended her 1500m Olympic title and finished second behind Beatrice Chebet in the women's 5000m final. Faith Kipyegon then claimed the win at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome and continued the winning streak to the final in Brussels.
The 30-year-old then capped off her season at the Athlos NYC, Alexis Ohanian’s women-only event, claiming a stunning win to walk away $60,000.
