World Athletics gave a nod to the men’s 4x100m team, men’s 4x400m team, and the mixed relay team to be entered into the tight race.

Team Kenya mixed relay teams can now rejoice since World Athletics has given them a nod to compete at the upcoming World Championships scheduled for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.

As reported by Nation Sport, World Athletics gave a nod to the men’s 4x100m team, men’s 4x400m team, and the mixed relay team to be entered and they will be on the start line competing against other countries.

Athletics Kenya director of competitions Paul Mutwii on Wednesday, August 2, said: “We are glad to announce that our relay teams have qualified through their superior world ranking. We can now concentrate fully on preparing the teams for the World Championships.”

The men’s 4x100m team will comprise Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, Steve Onyango, National champion Boniface Mweresa, Samuel Chege, Dan Kiviasi, and Hesbon Ochieng.

In the men’s 4x400m relay team, National champions Wiseman Were and Zablon Ekwam will be joined by Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal, Kelvin Sawe, Alex Ng’eno, and Kennedy Musyoki.

Kinyamal will lead the mixed relay team that also includes Musyoki, Ekwam, Mercy Oketch, Millicent Ndoro, and Maureen Thomas.

Due to the cancellation of the World Athletics Relays earlier this year, World Athletics announced that the first eight teams at last year’s World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, directly qualify for the relay events.

The top 16 ranked teams at the moment have also qualified for the Budapest showdown.
