Shericka Jackson has admitted to having learnt the bitter lesson that got her to miss an opportunity to represent Jamaica in the final of the 200m at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Jamaican sprint queen Shericka Jackson has admitted to having learnt from the costly mistake that saw her being disqualified from the 200m at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

She missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals after she slowed down near the finish line. Jackson was cruising as she looked to finish in the top three but relaxed far too early and never seemed to notice Italian Daila Kaddari coming her way.

She was unfortunately squeezed out by four one-thousandths of a second, paying a heavy price for her mistake. In a recent interview with Athletics Weekly, the Olympic 100m bronze medallist admitted to having learnt from that costly mistake and noted that she will head into this year’s Olympic Games with a different mindset.

The two-time World 200m champion insisted that it was something she could have learnt from the Diamond League Meetings but it was unfortunate that it had to happen when she was at the Olympics.

“It was a really tough learning experience and the sad part of it is that I learnt at the Olympic Games and it was something I could have at the Diamond League.

“I would say that it’s part of the game and I think I have learnt from the mistake and I have definitely grown over the years,” Jackson said.

The two-time World 100m silver medallist is yet to open her season and has withdrawn from four meets where she intended to open her 2024 season.

So far, she has pulled out of the JAAA Puma Fuller Anderson Development Meet, the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet, the Miramar Invitational, and the Diamond League Meeting in Suzhou, China.

However, she insisted on being grounded and feeling relaxed ahead of the Olympic Games. She is currently burning the midnight oil in her training and will be looking to pull off a surprise in the city of love.
