Jamaican sprint queen Shericka Jackson has disclosed plans to do things differently this season after qualifying for the 100m and 200m at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson is taking a different approach this season after qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Jackson struck a double, claiming titles in the 100m and 200m at the Jamaican Olympic trials. In the 100m, she clocked 10.84 to win the race ahead of 19-year-old Tia Clayton and 10-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who finished second and third in respective times of 10.90 and 10.94.
The two-time world 100m silver medallist also claimed the 200m title, clocking a season best time of 22.29 to cross the finish line. Lanae-Tava Thomas and Niesha Burgher finished second and third clocking 22.34 and 22.39 respectively.

After achieving the feat, the Jamaican sprint queen disclosed that she will not be racing a lot this season as she fine tunes her body for the Olympics. Jackson added that she would go train in Europe and compete in one or two races.
“I don’t think I’ll be competing a lot like last year. Last year, I competed a lot in the circuit…I just think I’ll be going to Europe to train and maybe run one or two races and I think that is helping my body," Jackson said.
“I’m getting old…I’m soon 30 so I think for me right now is to go back to the drawing board and fixing things and processing stuff differently."
She expressed excitement to have qualified for the Olympic Games, explaining that it was one of her major goals this season.
Having started her season in a faulty way, Jackson was also happy to have bounced back at the trials. She finished fifth at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo, something that bruised her ego.
However, she managed to claim wins at the Diamond League Meetings in Rabat, Morocco and the meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.

“I’m excited…when I started my season I knew what my goals were and I was to come to the Jamaican trials and make the team to both events (100m and 200m). I did so and I’m on my way to Paris...I’m excited,” she added.
“I’m proud of how I stayed mentally strong…my friends were always there many times especially after Oslo when I was so emotional and I knew if I had stopped for an interview, I would have cried. I needed that wakeup call and I got it and here I am today, going to Paris.”
