The world 200m champion was in a class of her own as she won her second Diamond League Trophy in Eugene on Sunday
Shericka Jackson completed a double of Diamond League Trophies as she clocked a meet record time of 21.57 to claim the women’s 200m at the season-ending Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.
Jackson displayed class to come from behind to win the race ahead of Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou who had a season’s best 22.10 as Strachan Anthonique of the Bahamas completed the podium in 22.16.
The Jamaican had claimed the bragging rights in the women’s 100m following a hard-fought victory on Saturday.
She clocked 10.70 to emerge victorious, five milliseconds ahead of Ta Lou while compatriot Elaine Thomson-Hera completed the podium in 10.79. Ta Lou was again in the 200m line-up and managed a second-place finish.
World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson paid the price for a poor start, finishing a disappointing fourth in 10.80 but she was not in the 200m cast on Sunday, giving Jackson an even easier time.
Jackson, who was beaten by Richardson at the 2023 World Championship, was in a class of her own as the rest of field scrambled for the other podium positions in what was a slow race, perhaps due to the effects of a grueling campaign.
It is a remarkable end to the season for Jackson who also won the 200m in Zurich a fortnight ago after clocking 21.82 before stopping the clock at 21.48 to win in Brussels last week.
Jackson became the third woman after Carmelita Jeter and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win the 100m and 200m Diamond League titles in the same year (2011 and 2013 respectively).
