Faith Cherotich’s coach Bernard Rono has opened up on the crucial role the Olympic 3000m bronze medallist plays in the camp despite being just 20.
Cherotich trains at the Kalyet Training Camp and she is one of the few young athletes whose stars have shone bright as she continues to make a mark as she continues being a source of inspiration to other young talents.
Coach Rono revealed that the former world under-20 3000m steeplechase champion is one of the forces behind the success of the youngsters in her training camp.

The world 100m bronze medallist has revealed what he would love to venture in after hanging his spikes.
He disclosed that when they see her succeed on the global stage, it is a source of motivation for the other athletes to maintain their discipline with the hope of also competing at the Olympic Games or World Championships.
At the start of the Athletics Kenya cross country series, a number of athletes from the Kalyet Training Camp triumphed in the junior races and they credited their wins to Faith Cherotich.
Asked about their secret to success, coach Rono revealed that they have been training hard this past few months but Cherotich has also shaped their perceptions as far as their success is concerned.
“The preparations have taken a lot of time and we have taken this holiday seriously…they have improved very well,” coach Rono said.
“Faith has helped them a lot and she helps me as a coach and she has been a great example for them. They try to work hard like Faith and that makes my work easier in training.
“I thank Athletics Kenya for having a great roaster during these events and the upcoming athletes are doing very well and I want to urge them to continue doing that.”

Meanwhile, this season has been very fruitful for the youngster who started with a second-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen. Cherotich contested a longer distance, the 5000m in Suzhou and could only afford a fourth-place finish.
Cherotich went ahead and claimed third-place at the Prefontaine Classic before heading to the Kenyan Olympic trials where she won the race, beating Beatrice Chepkoech and Jackline Chepkoech to second and third places.
At the Olympics, she carried Kenya’s hopes, securing a bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase before heading to the Diamond League Meeting in Rome where she finished third. Cherotich capped off her season with a win over Winfred Yavi at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
