Winning the 2022 New York City Marathon saw her walk away with Ksh13,895,000.

Starting out her professional athletics career seven years ago, Sharon Lokedi has credited her mum for pushing her to victory in the 2022 New York City Marathon.

Lokedi has revealed that since venturing into professional running, she has been able to do numerous things including supporting her family, especially her mother, Rose Lokedi.

“Running has really changed my life. I’m just really happy that with running, I have been able to do a lot of things including supporting my family,” Lokedi said.

Winning the New York City Marathon in 2022 was a life-changing moment for Lokedi as she was making her debut over the 42km distance and managed to walk away with a handsome paycheque of Ksh13,895,000.

She revealed that her mother was the reason behind her hard work to ensure she clinches the title.

The 28-year-old added that the support she received was immense and that also motivated her to do her best during the event.

“During that race, I just kept thinking about my mum. She has been the rock of our family and I just wanted to make her proud.

"The support I received showed me how much people love me and I am so grateful to have such great people surrounding me,” she said.

Lokedi's season has not been off to a good start since she was forced to withdraw from the Boston Marathon due to an injury.

However, things are taking shape for her now and she has already been confirmed for the Boston 10km and the New York City 10km race.
