Sharon Lokedi has expressed gratitude after closing her 2024 season while also explaining to her fans what cost her a podium place at the New York City Marathon.

Sharon Lokedi has had a long season that has seen her compete at the Boston Marathon, Olympics and New York Marathon.

Reflecting on her long season, the former New York City Marathon champion expressed her gratitude for wrapping up her campaign healthy as she looks forward to making waves next year.

Lokedi explained that this season is undoubtedly one of her favourites from her exceptional performances on the roads to making great connections and meeting new people. In a post on her Instagram handle, Sharon Lokedi is looking forward to God’s guidance as she enters the next season.

“I’m truly grateful for the incredible life I’ve been blessed with and the opportunities to form meaningful connections with numerous extraordinary individuals. Now lounging on my couch, reflecting on the challenges of this year and looking forward to an even brighter future with God’s direction,” Lokedi shared.

Starting her season at the Boston Marathon, Lokedi finished an impressive second behind Hellen Obiri before racing at the Mastercard New York Mini 10K where she finished second. Lokedi was a last-minute addition to the Paris Olympic marathon team and she put up a good fight to settle for fourth.

Heading to the TCS New York City Marathon, Lokedi finished a distant ninth despite going into the race with the much-needed confidence and readiness to reclaim the title she won in 2022. Speaking about her New York City Marathon setback, Lokedi explained that it has been a long season and she gave her all but it was not the best.

“Tough one for me today! Still grateful to have finished healthy! It’s been a long year! Going to take some well-earned time off now,” she said.

“Thank you @nyrr @nycmarathon @tcsglobal for putting on another wonderful race in NYC. Thank you to every part of my crew, family, teammates and coaches. Special thank you to @underarmour for providing all the support someone could need to be their best. To my sponsors @uarunning @maurten_official @missionrun_darksky @teamtotalathletics and everyone I haven’t mentioned, thank you! I am blessed to have your support.”
