World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson put track rivalry aside as she came to the aid of an injured Jamaican opponent during the Miramar Invitational in Florida on Saturday.
World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson showed great sportsmanship when she teamed up with Twanisha Terry to help out injured Jamaican sprinter Shashalee Forbes at the Miramar Invitational in Florida on Saturday.
Forbes, who was part of the Jamaican team that won silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics, competed in the 100m and qualified for the final after finishing second in her heat in 11.51 seconds.
She had a good start in the first few metres of the final until she was seen limping, before struggling to walk. An official would come to her aid before Richardson and Terry stepped in and walked her through the track following her withdrawal from the final.

Sha'Carri Richardson discloses next move after withdrawing from Miramar Invitational
American track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has opted for another race to start her season, bypassing the Miramar Invitational as she continues preparations for the Paris Olympics.
The 100m final was won by Mellissa Jefferson, who clocked 11.19, followed by Destiny-Smith Barnett and English Gardner who timed 11.28 and 11.33 respectively, but it was Richardson and Terry’s act of sportsmanship that caught the attention.
What was more touching was that none of Forbes’ team or teammates came to her aid while she was in pain.
Both Richardson and Terry are great rivals of Forbes as they beat her Team Jamaica in the 4x100m relay to win gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Richardson and Terry teamed up with Tamari Davis, Gabrielle Thomas, Tamara Clark and Melissa Jefferson to win gold for Team USA while Forbes joined Shericka Jackson, Natasha Morrison, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Briana Williams and Elaine Thompson-Herah to win silver for Jamaica ahead of Great Britain.
The world 200m bronze medallist, who won the 100m at the Miramar Invitational in 2023, was expected to grace this year’s edition but pulled out days before the event.
She, however, showed up to watch the action as she looks forward to beginning her 2024 season at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen, China on April 20.
