Sha’Carri Richardson will contest the 100m and 200m at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, hoping to go one place better than last year’s edition of the final.
The reigning Olympic 100m silver medallist finished fourth in the women’s 100m at the Prefontaine Classic, which was the Diamond League Meeting final. The 24-year-old is now aiming for double glory in Brussels, following a long season of mixed results.
At the Paris Olympic Games, Richardson was a favourite to win the women’s 100m but was outclassed by St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred who claimed the top honours. The American bounced back to anchor Team USA to victory in the women’s 4x100m relay race.

In the women’s 100m, Richardson will renew rivalry with Alfred, who will be out to take top honours and has insisted on looking to end her season on a high. Asher-Smith has also entered the 100m and she will be eyeing a podium finish in the race.
She flopped at the Paris Olympics and since then, the Briton has been lethal in her races and is fresh from finishing third at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich. Daryll Neita enjoyed her Paris Olympic Games campaign despite missing out on the podium.
She reached the finals in the women’s 100m and 200m, finishing fourth and fifth respectively and anchored Team Britain’s 4x100m relay team to a silver medal. Richardson will also be up against Africa’s fastest woman Marie-Jose Ta Lou-Smith who has eyes on redemption after a daunting season.
In the women’s 200m, Richardson has not had a smooth ride, missing out on a slot to represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics after finishing fourth in the trials. She lost two of her Diamond League Meeting races in the 200m, finishing second at the meeting in Xiamen and third in Suzhou.
In Brussels, all eyes will be on her to deliver as she lines up against a strong cast including Ta Lou-Smith, who also hopes to have a great run. Brittany Brown beat Richardson at the U.S. Olympic trials and has hopes to replicate the same performance in Brussels.
