A seven-letter word that left the Athletics Integrity Unit with no choice but to slap Emmaculate Anyango with a six-year ban.

Emmaculate Anyango has been banned for six years from September 26, 2024, for the use of prohibited substances (testosterone and EPO) with her results from February 3, 2024.

The Kenyan distance sensation was one of the most promising athletes, but her career has now hit a dead end. She will return to athletics in 2030, and other Kenyans will have already taken her place.

Anyango burst into the athletics scene after running the second-fastest time in the 10km race in Valencia earlier this year. She clocked 28:57 behind Agnes Ngetich. However, her star in athletics in athletics hit a dead end after she was provisionally suspended last month.

According to the statement released by the Athletics Integrity Unit, Anyango revealed that she did not know how the banned substances got into her system but further noted that she had been injected during treatment at several hospitals after she had fainted. The AIU was not satisfied with her explanation and charged her with an anti-doping rule violation.

The AIU wrote to Anyango for an explanation before November 1 but she got back on November 7 with a series of emails and explained that they should: “To see what to do to me.” She also failed to sign and return the admission form by November 7. Aggravating circumstances also contributed to Emmaculate Anyango’s extended ban.

Emmaculate Anyango donned the Kenyan jersey once this year, at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia where she finished fourth in the race won by Beatrice Chebet. Anyango raced at the Prefontaine Classic, the Kenyan Olympic trials for the 10,000m, she finished a distant sixth missing out on a slot in the Paris Olympic Games.

After that, she finished fourth at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race and went on to finish second at the Boilermaker Road Race. She did not compete since then.
