World Half Marathon champion Sabastian Sawe outkicked Uganda’s world record holder Jacob Kiplimo in a thrilling sprint finish to claim victory at the Copenhagen Half Marathon on Sunday.
Sawe clocked a blistering 58:05 securing his fifth win of the year and continuing a dominant 2024 season.
Kiplimo finished just four seconds behind in 58:09 while another Kenyan Isaiah Lasoi took third place in 58:10.

Winfred Yavi has expressed her disappointment towards losing to Kenya's Faith Cherotich and missing the world record at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
The race, which featured an impressive field of elite athletes, saw Sawe outshine his rivals in the closing stages, adding yet another major win to his 2024 accolades.
The 29-year-old Kenyan had already demonstrated his strength earlier this year winning several high-profile races including the Prague Half Marathon and the Boston 10km road race.
The men's race began with a large lead pack that included Norway's Olympic and world 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, making his much-anticipated half marathon debut.
Despite competing just two days after winning the Diamond League 1500m title in Brussels, Ingebrigtsen joined the leaders, passing the 5km mark in 13:53.

By the 10km mark, reached in 27:27, Ingebrigtsen had fallen off the pace, though he set a new Norwegian national record for 10km on the roads.
Struggling to keep up, he eventually pulled up, stopping multiple times but continuing to finish the race in 1:03:13. His rivals, meanwhile, pressed on, and the battle for the podium intensified.
At the 15km point, Kiplimo briefly regained the lead, clocking 41:17, but the final 5km turned into a fierce duel between the trio of Kiplimo, Sawe, and Lasoi.

Passing through 20km in 55:13, Sawe timed his move perfectly, surging ahead in the closing stages to seal a hard-fought victory.
The win adds to Sawe’s already impressive list of achievements this year.
He began his 2024 season with a victory at the Kenyan National Cross Country Championships in March, running 28:39 over 10km.
This was followed by wins in Prague, where he clocked 58:24 for the half marathon in May, and in the Boston 10km road race in June, where he crossed the finish line in 27:24.

The women’s race in Copenhagen was equally thrilling, with Kenya’s 2022 World 10,000m bronze medalist Margaret Chelimo narrowly missing the course record, winning in 1:05:11.
Chelimo, making her first appearance since her fourth-place finish in the women’s 10,000m at the Paris Olympics in August, was followed by compatriots Judy Kemboi, who clocked 1:05:43 for second place, and world half marathon bronze medalist Catherine Reline Amanangole, who finished in 1:06:09 to claim third.
