Botswana citizens had a go at American Noah Lyles by mocking him with a wheelchair celebration when their hero Letsile Tebogo returned home.
Botswana citizens could not avoid another dig at Noah Lyles when their champions returned home.
Lyles lost to Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo in the 200m race at the Paris Olympics and was wheeled out of the stadium on a wheelchair before later revealing that he was suffering from COVID-19.
As Tebogo returned home on Tuesday, Botswana citizens could not help but mock Lyles by having one of them sit on wheelchair akin to the American’s ordeal as they laughed and chanted in support of their sprint king.
“Yoh, @LylesNoah they wishing you a speedy recovery here in Botswana man, our internet is slow so they'll only know about your swift recovery in 10 days,” one fan posted on X while accompanying the comment with the mock video.
Lyles had bragged about winning the 200m race, claiming that his rivals would be “depressed” the moment he goes on the bend but ended up in pain when he was stunned by Tebogo, who won the race in an area record of 19.46 to become the first ever Olympics gold medallist from Botswana.
American Kenny Bednarek won silver while Lyles shockingly finished third to clinch a bronze medal and after the race, he lied on the ground in what seemed like disappointment, before he was taken out of the stadium after which the COVID diagnosis was revealed.

Botswana residents turned out in large numbers to welcome their Olympic heroes to the country on Tuesday following Letslie Tebogo’s inspired gold and silver medal wins.
Tebogo and his Team Botswana colleagues received a heroic welcome when they returned home on Tuesday with the National Stadium in the capital Gaborone filled to the brim as President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetwe Masisi led the celebrations.
Botswana won two medals at the Paris Olympics; being Tebogo’s gold as well as silver in the 4x400m relay which the 21-year-old anchored them to an impressive second place finish.
